Why: A competition to see who has learned the most in the past year in multiple categories, while having fun in the process.
HEY KATIPUNAN! The year is winding down and Brain Games 2009 is just around the corner! Brain Games is an academic competition that tests your Katipunan knowledge, past, present, and future in a series of games.The competition will involve 3 rounds, 3 separate games, in an elimination process, testing your mental abilities as a team. 6 teams of 4 will go head-to-head until there is only one team left standing. Finally, it's PCN season, and that means PCN Study Hours! Everyone involved in PCN is going to be required to fulfill five (5) study hours every week and log their time in one of the binders located at either the Rivera or Science Libraries. Katipunan's 30th Anniversary Banquet
That's right. 30 years! Please join us and celebrate three decades of culture and change of our organization here at UC Riverside. For those of you who do not know our mission statement this year, it is "30 Years in the Making: A Never-ending Flow of Tradition. Education, Appreciation, and Celebration of Pilipino Culture."

Multifaceted: Collegiate Filipino-Americans in Multi-Issue Organizing
The Southern California Pilipino American Student Alliance will be coming to UC Riverside!!! That’s right, their annual SCPASA Summit will be host by UCR Katipunan at the UCR Commons.
As host to this conference, there will be several schools from the Southern California area (such as Cal Poly Pomona Barkada, USC Troy Phi, MSMC Pangkat Pilipino) participating in workshops and leadership building exercises.
THIS IS OPEN TO ALL UCR KATIPUNAN MEMBERS! As host, we have to make sure to make the other schools feel welcomed, so make sure to come out and support!

The new t-shirt shipment of various sizes (S, M, L, XL) have arrived. They are available for “pick up only” (or exchange) this week at the Athena House. Ask any cabinet member where that is and we’ll be glad to provide you with more information.

First PCN Dance Practice
Wednesday the 14th
Time: 6-8pm
Location: Commons 302I hope you guys are as excited as I am for this year's PCN season! The first PCN dance practice will be this Wednesday, January 14 , 2009 at Commons 302! Practice will BEGIN at 6:15p.m. So manage your time and get there before 6. Remember... if you're early: you're on time, and if you're on time: you're late.
Some things to note:
-Dress comfortably! (that means sweats, basketball shorts, and NO JEANS)
-Wear comfortable shoes ! (we will be dancing on carpet)
-Bring a smile! =)

Tinikling Workshops! - This Week ONLY
Dates: Wednesday the 14th (PCN Practice), Thursday the 15th, Friday the 16th (PCN Practice)
Time: 8pm, immediately PCN practice

I Hope you guys excited for PCN! As many of you know, Tinikling is one of the major highlights for any cultural event. As much as I want each any every one of you to be on the the tinikling squad, there are limited spots available. With that said, I everyone to have a chance to show off their tinikling skills (no prior experience needed) as we will be having TINIKLING WORKSHIPS this WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY January 14 and 15, at 8pm immediately after PCN practice at the Recreation center (the REC). We will be teaching basic tinikling moves and proper tapping techniques. If you are interested in celebrating the Philippines' national dance, I invite you to join us.
Then on Friday, January 16, we will be having Tinikling try-outs for those who are interested in being part of this years tinikling squad!
Some things to note:
- Dress comfortably! (Sweats, shorts, and NO jeans)
- Prepare to dance bare-foot!

1) Shall be the official director of all student initiated outreach efforts promoting higher education administered by Katipunan.
2) Shall attend ASUCR finance committee hearings when outreach funding is requested and prepare budget reports including, but not limited to, how funds are spent and who benefited from outreach efforts.
3) Shall maintain a relationship among other student initiated outreach efforts promoting higher education administered by internal and external campus organizations....so if this is something you would like to be apart of, turn in an application!!!

Fast for Life
Join in a 24 hour fast in commemoration of the continuing struggle of social justice in the fields. In collaboration with MEChA, participants and supporters will gather around the Commons Lawn and begin the fast on Wednesday November 19th @ 12pm and end the fast on Thursday November 20th @ 12pm with a potluck with all the participants.
Can’t fast? That’s ok! You can still be a supporter and sponsor someone who is fasting.

Community Rally in Historic Filipino Town, Los Angeles
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 8th, 2008

THE DAY OF DAYS HAS COME for one of the biggest annual gatherings of Filipino American WWII veterans in Southern California. This special time for our community to gather and express our solidarity with the generation of warriors who still fight for equal entitlements as veterans of the United States allied military. March peacefully with us and other students from SoCal, but also come to listen and record the stories of the veterans who will be present and eager to pass their life lessons on to us.
A SIGN IN SHEET FOR RIDES TO THE JFAV FAIR WILL BE PROVIDED AT TABLING THIS WEEK!
LUNCH WILL ALSO BE PROVIDED! (WITH NO SHORT SUPPLY OF KICKASS HISTORY LESSONS FROM VETERANS)

PCN ACTING TRYOUTS!!!!
PCN Season starts here. If you want to act in PCN, you start with auditions. Never acted? No problem! Nervous? Don't be! We are here to support. There are a lot of roles to go around, so we need all the actors we can get. Acting is going to be an unforgettable learning experience.
You do not need to memorize anything. You can come and read our monologues, or bring a monologue of your own to perform. Auditions should take place in short 15 minute time slots, on a first come first served basis.
